Masiakasaurus knopfleri

A bizzare theropod that lived during the Late Cretaceous of Madagascar, Masiakasaurus is well known for its long, forward pointing teeth that interlock like a trap. The function of these teeth aren't exactly clear; it was initially suggested they could have been used to snare slippery prey like fish, but they could equally serve well to snare small land-based prey as well, such as small mammals, snakes, lizards etc. Masiakasaurus is one of the better known members of the Noasauridae; an odd and variable offshoot of the Abelisaurs that were small and fleet-footed. Noasaurines, like Masiakasaurus and Noasaurus were carnivores, while the Elaphrosaurines, such as Elaphrosaurus and Limusaurus would have been vaguely Ornithomimid-like herbivores.
